Installation

Getting started with Palette Picker is easy. Follow these steps to install the app on your PC:

  1. Open the PalettePicker-Setup-1.0.5.exe file you downloaded at purchase.
  2. Follow the on-screen installer prompts.
  3. Choose your preferred installation directory if prompted by the setup wizard.
  4. Launch Palette Picker directly from the newly created desktop shortcut or your Start menu.

Portable Version

Prefer not to install? The portable version runs instantly from any folder or USB drive, leaving no footprint on your system registry.

  1. Open the PalettePicker-Portable-1.0.5.exe file.
  2. Move the downloaded file to the specific folder or external drive where you want to keep it.
  3. Double-click to run PalettePicker-Portable-1.0.5.exe directly.

Core Features

Generate a Palette

Discover endless beautiful colour combinations instantly.

  • Custom Naming: Enter a custom palette name to keep projects organised.
  • Color Count: Set the exact number of colours you need in the # field.
  • Seed Colour: Choose a base colour using the selector or enter Hex, RGB, or HSL codes.
  • Harmony Modes: Select modes like Analogous, Complementary, or Triadic.
  • Quick Gen: Click Generate or press the Space bar.

Output Formats

View colours in the precise format required for your workflow.

  1. Use the Format dropdown at the top.
  2. Choose between Hex, RGB, or HSL.
  3. Click any colour card code to copy it to your clipboard.

:::tip Pro Tip Use Alt + Click on a colour value to quickly copy the raw Hex value, regardless of your current format setting. :::

Lock & Edit

  1. Lock: Freeze specific colours during the next generation.
  2. Edit: Open the manual colour picker for fine-tuning.
  3. Reorder: Click and drag handles to change the palette hierarchy.
  4. History: Use Ctrl + Z to undo and Ctrl + Y to redo.

Troubleshooting

Windows SmartScreen Appears

Windows Defender might flag the app because it is independently distributed. It is safe to continue.

  1. Click More info on the blue popup.
  2. Click Run anyway.

Hard Reset Saved Palettes

If your local database becomes corrupted:

  1. Close the application.
  2. Press Win + R, type %APPDATA%, and hit Enter.
  3. Delete the palette-picker-desktop folder.
  4. Reopen the app for a factory-reset library.
